Thanks for joining us, Casey—let’s dig right in:

Casey Diamond
Human Resources Manager

Tell us about your journey at KMC.

I started part-time at KMC when I was 16—I still remember the driver’s education car dropping me off after my lessons! After graduating college, I transitioned to a full-time role and have worked here for over 12 years. I started out as a receptionist and worked in the Accounting department. Over the last five years, I have been in the Human Resources department, which has been an incredible way to understand both the operational and people-management sides of the business.

What’s a typical day like in your role?

A typical day for me is never the same—every day brings something new. I handle a range of tasks, from handling employee relations and managing health benefits to overseeing time and labor processes, and everything in between. Each day requires a mix of problem-solving, communication, and multitasking to ensure everything runs smoothly and employees are supported in various aspects of their work life.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

What I enjoy most about my job is helping people with any questions they may have. Whether it’s addressing concerns, offering guidance, or simply providing clarity on a process, being a resource for others is incredibly fulfilling. It’s rewarding to know that I can make someone’s day easier or help them navigate challenges by offering support and information whenever they need it.

What do you look for in prospective hires?

I look for individuals who are skilled, adaptable, and collaborative. A strong work ethic, effective communication, and problem-solving skills are also essential.

What can new hires expect during onboarding?

Our onboarding process is designed to help new team members hit the ground running. We provide comprehensive training, introduce them to the team, and ensure they have everything they need to succeed from day one.

What’s something people might not know about KMC as a workplace?

One thing I wish more people knew about KMC as a workplace is that, as the largest producer of kyanite, our processes are quite unique. Many of our roles are specialized, offering employees the opportunity to develop expertise in an area that’s not only highly technical but also essential in the manufacturing industry.

Thank you for sharing your story and insights, Casey!
